This year has not been without its challenges. The
recent devastation caused by Hurricane Helene has
reminded us how vulnerable our landscapes and
communities are to extreme weather events. The
storm left its mark across Western North Carolina,
with record rainfall triggering widespread 昀氀ooding,
landslides, and erosion that forever changed parts of
our treasured landscapes. Trails were washed away,
riverbanks collapsed, and vital habitats were damaged.
Wildlife, farms, and communities alike bore the brunt
of this destruction, and the scars left behind remind
us of the storm’s power. Our thoughts are with those
affected throughout our service area and beyond, and

we remain committed to ensuring that conservation
plays a critical role in strengthening the resilience of our
region in the face of future natural disasters.
As we approach our 30th anniversary, we are
energized by what lies ahead, including a landmark
initiative to protect 12,000 acres of ecologically rich
landscape that builds upon an existing conservation
corridor in the South Mountains that we have worked

Conservancy of North Carolina, we 昀椀nd ourselves at
a place of favorable momentum. This year marks
29 years of steadfast dedication by our land trust
in protecting the natural treasures of this region, a
milestone made possible by the commitment of our
supporters, partners, and community. The foundation
we’ve built together over nearly three decades has
positioned us to expand our impact in the years ahead.
Our history is full of moments where passion and
persistence have converged to create lasting change,
and we are pleased to share another year’s worth of
community-centered conservation with you. From
